Of course it's not self defence. It never is. Not even when a woman protects their children. No matter what. [0] [1]
[Are you really that self-absorbed, you believe, her first instinct is to save herself? Congrats, there's a bright future in findomming ahead of you.] [11]
Still no self defence? |
The beauty of the decimal system is lost upon most. Luckily there's the number 11, AKA fool's number. Meanwhile the number 12 stands for perfection. Don't believe the hype.
At the beginning of 2021 Melek İpek was arrested in Turkey for killing her husband of 12 years in self defence. That morning, her husband left for work, having chained Mrs. İpek chained to the radiator. The night before he raped and tortured her, vowing to finish the job of killing her and their two daughters when he returned from work. Somehow Mrs. Ipek managed to get hold of his gun. When he came home, she warned him not to get in, which only made her husband more violent. There was a struggle for the gun [she was in handcuffs!] and it went off, leaving him fatally shot. His wife calls the police, who arrests her on the spot. The various newspaper articles differ, some claim Mrs. İpek was still handcuffed and naked. Despite all of that local [male] prosecutors have recommended the court reject claims she was defending herself and her children, and charge her with “deliberate murder”. The indictment recommends she be sent to prison for life.
Even here in the Netherlands people are occasionally getting a little fed-up with the police. Like flying over the city in low orbit, supposedly to scare of those who want to stir up trouble over the country-wide curfew that's in place because of Covid-19. Not that folks will hesistate to call the police if they need them. It's not a sentiment shared around the world. To call the cops, yes or no, in the USA, very much depends on the colour of your skin. Meanwhile in Turkey, it's hardly ever a wise choice to report domestic violence.
According to Duvar Gazette, a local English language newspaper, 'Turkey as domestic judiciary and law enforcement [is] infamously reluctant to prosecute or even detain male suspects in cases of violence against women.'
In an earlier case 'Ümitcan Uygun, the main suspect in the murder of a young woman named Aleyna Çakır, was only detained on drug charges months after her death, despite videos showing Uygun assaulting Çakır while she was alive.'
Just in case you're wondering why she didn't call the police.
When you blog, the next story usually presents itself before as you finish the current one. Remember last week's article about the missing chair and two EU presidents visiting Turkey? I referred to the Turkish president as a misogynist? It's even worse. Recep Erdoğan, leader of the conservative Islamist movement who has championed the traditional family as the Turkish ideal, mid-March issued a decree, annulling Turkey's ratification of the Istanbul Convention on violence against women. The convention is a legally-binding Council of Europe treaty, covering domestic violence and seeking to end legal impunity for perpetrators. It covers 34 European countries and took effect in 2014. Despite the fact that laws and conventions are nothing but text on paper, it's better than nothing. So why has Erdogan backtracked?
According to the BBC:
'However, Mr Erdogan has recently become more vulnerable politically. He has bowed to the demands of hardliners, both within his conservative AK party and in the Islamist opposition Felicity Party, in return for their support.
Opponents of the convention have complained it encourages divorce and undermines traditional family values. They find it especially problematic that signatories have to protect victims from discrimination regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Their worry is that this single clause may lead to gay marriage.'
In another story, referenced by The New York Times, Two Kurdo-Turkish German men accused of helping to kill their sister in 2005 because of her Western lifestyle were acquitted in a Turkish court.
'The sister, Hatun Surucu, 23, was killed at a Berlin bus stop when her youngest brother fired three bullets into her head. The brothers said the family’s honor had been offended because she divorced the man her family had forced her to marry at age 16 and then began dating and refused to wear a head scarf.'
All of that matters little to Mrs. İpek. Nobody in their right mind actually believes the killing of her husband wasn't self defense. In a twisted way it reminds me of the Monica Lewinsky affair. Whatever happened no longer matters once the facts are being weaponized by the opposite side. In the greater scheme of things, nobody cares what happens to an anonymous single woman.
All we can do, is to tell the story of Melek İpek over and over again, until those in power claiming the dead husband, not his battered wife and daughters, is the real victim, come to realize this is not the way for them to further strengthen their grip on power. As for Melek İpek, I can only hope she's out of prison soon, reunited with her two girls and cleared of all charges. Sadly, that's not gonna happen anytime soon I think.

Long Personal Note:
As for my hardcore vanilla reporting of late, don't blame me, blame the women in my life. I haven't had the crap beaten out of me in a long time and it shows. No worries, once International Woman's Day comes, I'll write something about it. It's gonna be great and will make you believe I actually (kind of, almost) care, while racking up brownie point with super smart [!], sadosexual-dominant women. Dutch is the best slave ever. Right? [5]
Nor am I a proper reporter. If I was, I would've chosen a less 'offensive' masthead image. Looking at the face of Mrs. İpek while reading this during breakfast as a superior submissive slave must be annoying. My apologies to the mistresses of the world too for ruining their perfectly served breakfast. But like I said, I'll make it up by sucking up on the next International Women's Day, whenever that is. Because it's the one day where we men actually think about the women we drool over serving. Or something.

[0] Imagine Mr. İpek had been able to carry out his threat to kill their two children. Looking back, she not only protected Her girls but also their father. And no, he's no longer their Dad.
[1] Oops, the couple has two girls. That doesn't count. I mean children, as in riel [3] kids, you know.
[2] One can only wonder what happens to Mr. Erdogan who built his [power]house over a frozen lake now that the economy is in free fall. And not just because of Covid-19. Unless you hedge against currency fluctuations it's always a bad idea to spend your way out of trouble in foreign currency to finance a local building explosion. Roads to nowhere, anyone? As for who pays the price, we all know the answer.
[3] Any similarities between 'riel' Vanillastan and 'real' Dark Side is [hopefully] purely coincidental. [4]
[4] If not, blame it on my poor command of the English language. Or the sun and moon not being perfectly aligned.
[5] Please say yes, please.
[11] It may take a while but now you get why I'm so upset with puppet queen Patricia of the OWK. There's clearly no direct line from queen Nzinga Mbandi to Patty Mystery or whatever she calls herself these days.
