Quiz: Which Domme Should Be The 14th Doctor?

Time for the first-ever Domme Doctor.

Cucumber time is the Dutch expression for silly season. Only, this year it's not just the summer months filled with frivolous news, it's been going on ever since Covid-19 came to town.

Doctor Who on the other hand is serious stuff, as I've explained many times before. Most viewers agree that Jody Whittaker is a little underwhelming as the thirteenth Doctor. Some blame it on the writing, others on the actor. My bet? It's a bit of both.

"Since David Tennant played the 10th Doctor, each incarnation of the character in modern Doctor Who has adventured across space and time for three whole seasons before "regenerating" into a brand new actor.

Dressed for Disney.

It's become an article of faith for the BBC that Doctors should hang on for three seasons, so they can introduce the next Doctor with lots of fanfare. Silly, if you really wanna get bang for your buck, surprise your viewers. That might be about to happen because the rumours keep getting stronger that Whittaker will leave shortly after the holiday specials. Honestly, it's for the best. Just look at her outfit that feels like it's made for the Disney Channel. The way Jo Martin was dressed, when she appeared as the unknown Doctor on the other hand. That's the way for a Timelord to dress. On top of that, if you ask anyone in 20 years time, who was the 13th Doctor, most people will answer Jo Martin. 'Jody Whittaker? Really, are you kidding me?' Jo Martin should also be the 14th Doctor. Just pay some great sci fi writers an aweful lot of money to make that happen.

Looks like Jo Martin is the 14th Doctor. Don't count on it. (image: geekritigue)

Most likely that won't happen. Why give viewers what they want as a struggling, public broadcaster. Kris Marshall is the current favourite (4-1) to take over. Reading yesterday's the Guardian, a lot of interesting and funny names came along. Why not cast Tilda Swinton instead of Mr. Marshall. How about Helena Bonham Carter? She'd get my vote if I hadn't already cast it in favour of Jo Martin. Nina Sosanya is also often mentioned in the comment section, Thandiwe Newton would be my choice. Hugh Laurie also makes for an interesting candidate. In case regeneration back-fires: Jason Statham. Not as far-fetched as it seems, the next Doctor should be a little grimmer. Oh, wait, that's part of why I vote for Jo Martin.

Here's my question to you. Which domme should replace Jody Whittaker as the 14th Doctor? Go wild.

Before I go a bonus suggestion, Ruth Wilson with Idris Elba as sidekick.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy... two of my obsessions in one blog post.

So, let's see... proper domme, right? Not an actress? Because personally I would be very happy to see Michelle Gomez in the role (yes, she was Missy but the Doctor has a habit of appropriating the bodies of other characters - Colin Baker did, so did Peter Capaldi, right?).

Equally, though, it might be better to leave her turn as Missy as the flawless jewel that it is and move on.

So... proper dommes. Has to be British, I suppose? Because otherwise, I'd go wild for Eleise de Lacy traveling the universe in a Tardis and righting wrongs. Or not righting wrongs... to be honest I wouldn't much care. And Canadian is almost British, after all.

But sticking with British... well, perhaps because I am still hung up on Michelle Gomez's Missy, Ms Slide comes to mind. I haven't met her but her look and online persona seem right... http://sliderulesyou.com/wp/

But if only on grounds of my own devotion and sheer obsession, another suggestion would have to be Goddess Serena. Beautiful, tough attitude tempered with detached amusement, mind like a diamond and she is even into science fiction. https://www.gynarchygoddess.com

Or... perhaps Alice Malice? Funny, smart, witty, wise and slightly quirky? She looks the part, I can imagine her as the Doctor. https://alice-malice.net

Don't you think?

Best wishes

As for Missy, agreed. In fact she outranks River Song many, many times over. She's also no match Jo Martin's Doctor Ruth. Sorry.

I think it was Euclides who said it best: 'everybody knows River Song was conceived in the Tardis, which makes her a better pilot than any Doctor. But first, my towel. The invention of television can wait till tomorrow.'

Let's go crazy. Imagine Missy and River Song having a child, wouldn't they be the best Doctor ever. Not that you will ever see them in the role, they'd be an impossible act to follow.

Feels like I'm drifting. To be honest, I don't have an answer to my own question. The fun thing about Doctor Who is - just like real life - you can be several people at once.

The latest rumour is that singer and actor Olly Alexander will now replace Jody Whittaker.

Last year it was announced that actor and comedian John Bishop is going to be the Doctor's new companion. Usually the Doctor and their lead companion have opposite genders. Does that mean:

a) there's year[s and years] more of Jody Whittaker to come;
b) Yaz will be featured more prominently;
c) We definitely - and sadly - have entered the multi-companiverse;
d) Or that the next Doctor is female?

Or will 2022 give us back our freedom and wipe Jody's Doctor from our memories, explaining how it all was a bad dream, just like they once did on the soap Dallas?
