In 2017 I wrote about the inevitable closure of the Armory, best known as Kink.com's headquarters. According to Wikipedia the building was constructed as an armory and arsenal for the United States National Guard in 1912–1914 and designed with a castle-like appearance in a Moorish Revival style. In an exceptionel well-written 2017 article for Hazlitt Tina Horn takes the reader into the world beyond the Arsenal's outer walls. She also shares some of her memories from her time at Kink's HQ
Originally bought for 14 million in 2007, a decade later the Armory sells for 65 million. Who can say no to that? Because most kink happens undercover of the night, our news circle is a bit slower than that of Vanillastanians. My apologies for bringing up this four-year old post about the San Francisco Armory. For those of you who ain't gonna read the story, Kink HQ was a happy place, despite the occassional scream. [1] Not that anybody outside its wall can hear you. Lovely, isn't it?
Nobody believes Google practices what it preaches, stuff about don't be evil and so on. How the times have changed. Kink.com's mission is "to demystify and celebrate alternative sexualites by providing the most ethical and authentic kinky adult entertainment." If you're into it and also can make a living out of it, why not? After reading Mrs. Horn's article I believe Kink.com managed to stay much closer to it's original mission than Google.
"Seeing a database engineer talking to a dominatrix about selling her content. It doesn’t exist anywhere else." Meanwhile, outside those thick walls, the haters keep on hating - and are getting better at it. As in more sneaky. [2] Even in the most libertarian city in California. Drawing up rules to curtail other people's freedom in order "to protect them" sounds rather silly when behind the screen showrunners and technicians with degrees from top universities, including Harvard, make sure the business machine of Kink.com runs smoothly. Providing us with our daily fix is no small feat but for years the various labels escaping from the Armory did just that.
Times have changed. In the end 50 Shades didn't do our Dark Side any good. With the 21th century in full swing, the backlash against the freedom to make certain adult choices - even discretely [11-inch walls anyone?] - is growing stronger and stronger. So sad. We all have this pent-up sexual energy, not talking chastity here, we need to release. Who can be against consentsual adults having fun? Besides, less clothes also mean less polution. OK, that was not in the original plan. Whoever told you sex is only for procreation (in order to save the human race and so on) was wrong. Nor does it make those who 'stick to the plan' somehow superior. And don't tell me somebody has to do it. Let love rule. Works best if you mix it with lots and lots of sex. Topped of with a healthy dose of making your happiest fantasies come true.
If the Armory and Kink.com will be remember for one thing, that's it, not it's 11.000 videos. Looking back, the person who decided that every video should come with a short interview before and after with mistress and slave, deserves a medal. Usually she was smiling the most before the shoot started. Has something to do with tears in heaven. During the recording most of the screaming and suffering are his. Guess who is most likely to have the biggest smile in the 'after' interview? [3]
Guess the OWK can learn a thing or two from Kink.com. I'm wondering what they're up to these days.

[1] Now that's what I call voluntarily involuntarily. You know what you sign up for. You also understand [sort of] the kind of sounds that your gag cannot suppress. Whatever makes you happy, right?
[2] Clearly people with too much free time on their hands. If stopping other from indulging in their consensual fantasies is your ultimate goal, why not trade that dream in for something hotter?
[3] Yabba yabba yabba. And yes, your guess is as good as mine. [4]
[4] But who cares?
