Learning the Language of Rope

Today is not about tying the knot

Just don't trip over the rope and guard your privacy. Not everybody understands happiness has many faces

The awe inspiring Claire Adams from Men in Pain in a classic case of learning the ropes.

Dutch had a busy Christmas, so I watched this years Doctor Who Christmas episode only now. The sound was terrible, too much background noise but I do think I heard 15 say that he was learning the language of rope. And yes, in a Goblin airship that would not have been out of place at Six Flags but who cares. Just like you, my instant gut reaction was: finally. Sadly things are not always what they seem [1] and the whole thing quickly unravelled. But what a lovely title for my last post of 2023.

Learned lots of things this year, like the fact that happily smiling sadistic women toying with a willing victim [him mostly before and after] are a work of art. Like I wrote yesterday, 2023 reminded me once again that life is all about the people you love and care about. Dad is still very much alive and kicking. He probably had the best Christmas in years and not just him. Life is fickle, enjoy it while you can. If that means being in bondage, captivated by that evil smile of the woman you love but also call mistress, just before she is gonna do what she does best, do it. She, that is, no you, you're tied up like a helpless leftover Christmas turkey on December 27.

So, there you have it. Live the best life you can live. Do what you want and what makes you happy. Your life, you decide. Just remember not everybody feels that way. Makes sure to be discreet whenever you have to. Privacy is, was and will always be my biggest fetish.

And in case you need to think it over, why not try a little bondage? Just beg your Love and mistress not to disrupt your inner peace by stealing a kiss when you are at your most vulnerable. Or worse...

Face the Music

Janet Jackson - Rope Burn

"Janet Jackson’s “Rope Burn” is a sultry and provocative song that delves into themes of dominance, submission, and the exploration of power dynamics within intimate relationships. Released in 1997 as part of her sixth studio album, “The Velvet Rope,” the song stands as one of Jackson’s most daring and sexually charged compositions. With her seductive vocals and bold lyrics, Jackson takes listeners on a sensual journey, providing a unique perspective on the complexities of desire and control." [Old Time Music]

Notes

[1] Indeed things are not always what they look. It makes perfect sense for Ncuti Gatwa to wear a kilt on the dance floor, he is Scottisch after all. But did you know Mr. Gatwa is also Rwandan? Bet you didn't.

[2] Glad you learned about that one, didn't you. One more thing life taught me this year is that  have to do more back-ups. An entire drive with drafts and apropriate illustrations [research purposes only] is gone. Most likely a damaged MBR.

[3] Life also taught me that I 'appreciate' women in leather. Of course 'to be continued'. Evil grin.

[4] The weirdest thing I learned this year is that time travel is possible. Sort of. By accident I discovered an ex-girlfriend of mine, someone whom I dated over ten years ago got married this year exactly on my birthday. When I found out, I couldn't help but smile. I knew she was engaged to be married but that was some years ago and I assumed she was married by now. We kept in touch for a long time and I remember her contacting me for some reason, right after she got engaged, and me congratulating her. Don't think she reads my blog, but if you do congratulations and all the best. [5]

[5] One night as I was out with friends, I told what happened and everybody started laughing and joking. "There are easier ways to tell someone you love, you miss them." "Yeah, but marrying someone else on your ex' birthday kinda backfires spectacular if you want tell someone you miss them." I retorted. [6]

[6] We had lots of fun that night. And let's be honest if you break up with someone you love[d], it's like really nice they are happy with someone else. I know her husband and he really loves her. That makes me smile. Good for you guys and congratulations. Unfortunately you will never read this, but still.

[7] Now on to Doctor Who. Wasn't a great episode but I loved it. We all know 11 is the best but 15 is pretty amazing too. The new doctor clearly has a spring in his step and lots of swagger. I think Ncuti Gatwa is gonna make for an amazing Time Lord. The only thing that worries me is the Disneyfication of the programma. The Evil Mouse now owns the global broadcast rights for Doctor Who outside the UK. Yes, the budget has improved dramatically but is it wise. First time you spot the goblin airship you instantly think Disneyfication. On the other hand Christmas episodes always have a lighter touch, so let's wait and see. Still, it feels a little polished.

Millie Gibson and Ncuti Gatwa make for a good team. Both have lots of energy and are clearly enjoying themselves. And yes, it's now official, Russel T Davis has made up his mind. The Doctor is not from Galifrey but the timeless child, an orphan, like his new companion. Ruby was left at a church and the Doctor goes back in time to prevent the goblins from eating her but does not approach the mother who leaves little baby Ruby on the doorstep of the church on Ruby road. Why? Who is she? What does it mean for Ruby? Love all those questions. Endless speculation.

Then there is the neighbour, Mrs. Flood. In the beginning of the episode she is clearly racist, but something changes and at the end she becomes this mysterious old lady who urges Ruby to go inside the Tardis and then turns directly to us, the viewers, and asks “Never seen a tardis before?” I just love that. Why? Who is she? What does it mean for Ruby? Love all those questions. Endless speculation.

And yes that's my 11 [1+1] joke for today. Both mother and Mrs. Flood can be River Song, Missy or perhaps even Dr. Ruth, AKA the fugitive Doctor.

And that's how you do, it bring the Doctor back to life. Finally from The Guardian's comment section:

"My daughter called Ruby's shopping bag splitting before it happened because she reckoned it was going to be a reference to Home Alone, and we reckoned the crawling through the ventilation shafts was a nod to Die Hard."

All I want for Christmas 2024? A rock solid guarantee that Clara Oswald is neither Mrs. Flood not Ruby's mother.
