Two fetishes for the price of one. Tears and frustration not optional. |
Google is your friend, or so they say, and I learned three things. There is no specific word to describe a fetish for glasses. That surprised me.
Next that psychologists have an opinion about almost anything, whether it makes sense or not.
According to Alfred Binet, a French psychologist, glasses fetishism could be classified as "plastic love" as opposed to "spiritual love". Binet proposed that "Spiritual love" occupied the devotion for specific mental phenomena, such as attitudes, social class, or occupational roles; while "plastic love" referred to the devotion exhibited towards material objects such as body parts, garments, shoes or in this case glasses.
While coining the phrase plastic love, the choice of such a derogatory term reveals what the psychologist really thinks of it. I can hear Freud laughing.
Is it the glasses or the woman? |
Big in Japan
Finally, girls with glasses - or meganekko - are hot in Japan. Why am I not surprised. The meganekko is a stock character in Japanese animation and glasses have different meanings for both male and female characters. Men wearing glasses are considered dominant and in control. But females wearing glasses are often considered shy until they take of their glasses and show their stunning beauty. There are several posts on Tumblr where "sweet" girls in glasses are really sadists in disguise. Such a contradiction must be a lovely unpleasant surprise for their slaves, once they get over the initial shock that is. Perhaps opposites attract after all.
